Sadie's Story
![]() |
Through her non-profit, Sadie has been serving her community since 1999 and has helped thousands of people in Seminole County, FL. Sadie doesn't pay herself for her work but instead supports herself and her children on minimal child support. With little financial means and a big heart, Sadie devotes her time to her life's work - running the charity to help others in need, while instilling such values in her children. Her long-term goal is to build a halfway house for recovering drug addicts so they don't have to go back to the streets. |

In 2003, Sadie had to move her family from their home to a rented apartment to make room for the overwhelming outpouring of donations being given to the non-profit. The home they vacated was severely damaged by Hurricane Charley in 2004, and then further damaged by an electrical fire in August 2005. Despite a lack of insurance, no means to fix the house, and with rent to pay and a family to care for, Sadie has continued to run her non-profit out of the damaged house while leasing a separate apartment for her family to live in. |

Thanks to the generosity of ABC and national home builder, Mercedes Homes and its team of partners, the Holmes Family was selected as a proud recipient of ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Today, Sadie Holmes Help Services, Inc. operates from a non-profit center that is above and beyond their expectations, helping Sadie's family further their mission for helping those in need. |
